Philly heavyweight Darmani Rock, 20, made a successful pro debut Friday night in Washington, DC, with a speedy knockout of Carlos Black, 1-4, of Rockville, MD. Rock's coming out party was held at the DC Armory and was televised live on BET. The young heavyweight charged out at the opening bell and appeared dead-set on starting his career with a KO. About halfway through the first round, Rock hurt Black and poured on the pressure until a vicious right staggered him against the ropes. As Black was about to fall, Rock slammed home a left hook that put the 31 year old down hard. No count was necessary, but referee Michelle Myers went through the motions. The end came at the 1:54 mark, and launched Rock's promising pro campaign. |
