TASSONE TKOs DONATO AT SPECTRUM

Tony "Rocky" Tassone won a crowd-pleasing 7th round TKO victory over Rudy Donato in a clash of Philly middleweights, on this day in 1979.

Rocky pressed the action from the opening bell and looked strong throughout the bout. He flashed his power with a first round knockdown and had Donato bleeding early on. Tassone continued to pound away until the fight was stopped six rounds later. It was a clear and impressive win for Tassone.

The bout preceded the main event of the evening, David Love's 10-round decision over Bennie Briscoe. 6,296 fans attended the Spectrum card which also featured Ernie Singletary winning a 10-round decision over Ralph Moncrief, an 8-round draw between Mike Picciotti and Johnny Cooper, and a 4-round decision victory by Kevin 'The Spoiler' Howard over William Burton.

Tony Tassone never won another bout. He lost his next three bouts and retired for good in 1984.
